We made a lot of green minded friends at the Metropolitan Design Center (CMD) but in downtown Buenos Aires sustainable examples were more hard to find. For instance, separating waste is no issue at all in Buenos Aires (every night all types of waste are collected from the street corners).
From a sustainability point of view we love the local tradition of people drinking (and sharing) mate, a kind of local tea which is frequently poured over with warm water. Unlike coffee-to-go waste makers, the mate drinking culture seems to keep the parks clean.
Besides the famous Fileteado Porteño illustrations, our favorite street sightings include so called „Paseadores de perros“ (professional dog walkers), people enjoying the city parks, a lively skateboard culture, erosion of parked cars, daily local demonstrations (mostly by smaller unions) and large pieces of street art.
